About me

I’m Jacob, a 29-year-old writer from the UK.

I won’t bore you with the same info that’s on my Home Page. I’ll tell you a little more about myself.

I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember. Whether it’s writing short stories, poems, or faux game manuals, writing has been my pastime ever since I was a child. As an adult, I discovered that I’m at my best when conveying complex information in simple ways, which is one of the many things I love about academic writing, providing it’s done right. (I’m a PhD student in Philosophy, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have some of my academic writing published.) I enjoy the creative side of writing, too — novels, poems, song lyrics, and so on. My work doesn’t leave much time for these kinds of writing, but I do what I can (who knows, one day I may actually finish writing my novel!).

So much for writing.

Technology, too, is something I’ve loved for as long as I can remember. I remember picking up programming books from the local library, or PC World, when I was nine or ten years old. I remember trying out different Linux distros when I was 12. I remember upgrading my PC components for the first time when I was 13. There’s never been a time when I’ve stopped learning and experimenting with technology.

That I get to combine these two passions — writing and technology — for work today is a blessing.

Apart from hardware/technology writing and academic philosophy, I’m (occasionally) into PC gaming, online poker, songwriting and guitar playing, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
